Beautiful German-made stein commemorating 500 years (in 2016) of the German Beer Purity Law (Reinheitsgebot) in 1516. This law restricted what ingredients could be used in the production of beer in order to keep beer safe and to keep the production of bread available and cheap. The German writing on this stein is translated to: “We also want that in our cities, markets, and in the countryside, nothing else shall be added to or used for beer than barley, hops, and water.”
